Basic Info
Name:mirror_darkly
Birthdate:11-08
Location:Wiltshire, United Kingdom
Bio
This is a character for the roleplaying game, Fiery Inception. I did not create him; I'm just playing with him for a while. I'll put him back when I'm done. All props for the character should go to J.K. Rowling. All goofs are on my own head.

The Basics

Character Name: Lucius Malfoy
Played by: Anderson Cooper

Age: 46
Birthday: November 8, 1954
Wand: willow, 14 inches
House in School: Slytherin
Bloodline: (Pureblood,Half-blood, Muggle born) Pureblood

Political View: He is a pureblood supremacist. Mudbloods are an abomination for their diluted blood, only to be tolerated if they have proven themselves more powerful than him, of equal power to him, or useful and well-placed enough that they are out of his reach but not his influence. Muggles are beneath contempt and only useful for information-gathering or personal amusement.

He completely agrees with everything that Voldemort was trying to accomplish and laments only that it never got seen completely through. But while he is still around, he will see to it that what can be done is, whatever it takes (from the shadows and the background, as he also extremely enjoys his social and financial position, besides the annoying restrictions of the Ministry).
Appearance

Appearance
Height: 5’ 9”
Weight: 175 lbs.
Build: moderate He is neither muscular nor emaciated, but comfortably thin, athletic, and fit. His well-tailored clothes always frame that fact to a T.
Eyes: very, very pale; only by standing close could an observer tell that they are actually a washed-out grey rather than faded blue They are penetrating and observant eyes, unconcerned about hiding the fact that they dissect everyone and everything they stare at.
Hair: very washed out and pale; it’s light enough to hide whether or not he’s showing any (embarrassing) streaks of white/grey

Dress style: severe, in an ostentatiously wealthy way He prefers somber colors in rich fabrics, but nothing so obvious as to be gauche. Everything his wears is well-tailored and probably hand-made.

Discerning Marks: (include basic appearance, discerning marks, style, etc.) While on the slightly shorter side for an average man (something he detests), a person would be hard-pressed to notice it, since his demeanor and arrogant self-assurance make him seem about seven feet tall. He is a handsome older man, and he knows it. Rather like Sean Connery, rather than ceding to the ravages of time, he has somehow managed to look even better the more mature he gets. (A cynical person might say it was because he willed it that way or knew who to pay off in Father Time’s office.) That said, as good-looking as he might be, his face has a pointed, crafty look, as if a celestial hand pinched it in while the clay was still wet.
Personality

Malfoy has everything going for him: money, wealth, power, the right palms already greased, and minds already cowed. That and a manipulative and domineering personality make for very potent strengths. But they can also be important weaknesses. The wealth and status he covets also act as blinders to any part of society where they aren’t the coin of the realm. Even beyond purely selfish reasons, that means that he, personally, cannot have contact with a large part of society and could be blindsided by anything that came from there.

He, first and foremost will look after himself and his family name, not necessarily his family (although I think he might honestly love Narcissa and the idea of a son—not necessarily Draco specifically—as much as he is able). This could certainly lead to situations he would rather avoid, and not just because of the possible bad press. But, if he must, then he would certainly take care what needed to be taken care of.

He also prefers to think of most laws as only applicable in case he’s about to be caught. He has a minimal personal ‘moral compass’—set in place by his father and molded into its current shape by Voldemort—that he follows, and that would be more than sufficient for him.
Psychology

Psychology
Introvert/Extrovert Extrovert. He has almost always known getting only his own way, whether it be with money, objects, or people. In his thinking, why shouldn’t he push forward as much as he can with whatever he wants, if it only means that he’ll get what he wants sooner?
Boggart is? Explain. His Boggart is a Dark Mark. While it stands for the one man who epitomizes what he believes in, it also represents the only other thing that Malfoy fears: Voldemort. While Malfoy still has lingering fears of his father, as Abraxas has been dead for many years (and, thanks to the fact that Lucius was the only Malfoy son, would never actually kill him), only Voldemort’s sign wraps up everything he fears into one single terrifying thing: if he failed, he could be outed as a failure, stripped of his status and power, ostracized, and, most importantly, dealt a lingering, painful death he could not stop alone. Intellectually, he knows that Lord Voldemort is dead, but he was ‘dead’ the last time, so that mark will probably still continue to have a hold on him until he is sure that everything is really over for good.
Patronus--can he produce one? What is it and why does it have that form? It it an embarrassment, but he cannot. A Patronus is based around a happy memory. Malfoy was raised in a very restrictive, severe, and, above all, proper home. I doubt very much that his childhood or current adult life have been very happy—or, if they were/are, I doubt it is the kind of pure, non-gloating happiness that could produce a Patronus-feeding memory.
Sexuality

Sexuality: To him, there is really only one sexuality: straight. Since he views mixed blood of any kind as an abomination, having anything other than completely ‘normal’ tendencies is not only a disgusting, but also a sign of weakness of character (because, of course, the person decided to be perverse).
Lifestyle

Occupation: He would never actually be caught working, but he’s certainly not adverse to taking on ‘projects’—so long as they’re useful to him.
Residence: Malfoy Mannor
Financial Status: extremely wealthy
Family

Family If anything, he has a lot of it, stretching back generations, and he feels the weight of each and every aunt, uncle, and grandparent. Along with the money, home, and trappings of wealth, he inherited the weight of the Malfoy name and all the connotations of what that means right onto his shoulders. He received it from his father, and he will, when (not if) things go according to plan, pass it on to his son.
Parents? His father, thankfully, is dead, and long may he rot. Even after twenty seven years, his memory can still make Malfoy mentally cringe. Abraxas Daedelus Malfoy had ruled all of his social kingdoms with an iron fist, and none so much as Malfoy Manor. He had every aspiration that his son, Lucius, would grow up to make the family name proud. Every lesson on the Family’s history and standing, every mental game, every social lesson, every piece of his extensive athletic regimen forcefully groomed Lucius for the future. While it assured Lucius a good understanding of social customs and their manipulation, it made his childhood a cold, living hell. He almost rejoiced openly when his father somehow contracted Dragon Pox on one of his little adventures and died. It was a wonderful present for his eighteenth year.

As far as Malfoy is concerned, his mother is as good as dead and had been since he was little. His father had really only married Melinda Geddings-Woad because her family was wealthy and well-connected, and everyone knew it. She’d turned out to have a weak, easily dominated character and never even attempted to mitigate Abraxas’s harsh lessons toward her son. She’d never said, but Malfoy always half-suspected she might have agreed with his treatment. That had made him resent her. But when Malfoy discovered that he, too, could dominate her will, he’d lost all respect for her. As is socially respectable, he goes to visit her several times a year at the country estate, but the visits never last very long, nor are they really enjoyable for anyone.

Siblings? No. One son was enough.

Family dynamics--do they get along? Opposite sides of the war? Accept their child's magical talent? Pressure for 'pure blood' marriage?
The social face that the Malfoys present to the world is as flawless as possible. As I said, I think Malfoy really does love Narcissa and Draco as much as he is able, but if the Family name were threatened, he would, regrettably, scrap them to save it.

During the war, they all presented a unified front: welcoming to Death Eaters in private and among friends, ‘concerned (but somehow ineffectual) citizens’ to the public, for it never paid to close any doors until one had to. Malfoy still honestly believes in the Cause and will expect his wife and son to follow him in this regard. Not doing so will certainly cause problems . . .

While Malfoy never set up an arranged marriage for Draco—in his thinking, it was always better to wait and see which family presented the best connections and wealth potential both at the time and in the future—he expects his son to marry well, carry on the family line with a son, and educate him well in the proper ways of being a Malfoy. He will be there to ‘help out’ (see to it Draco doesn’t mess things up). Draco’s wife will be a pureblood, and she will be able to trace her family back to the truly Important people of the past.
History from student days at Hogwarts to the present time

History from student days at Hogwarts to the present time: (include any affiliations since Hogwarts, jobs, family life, significant events in the character's recent history, how was this character affected by the war? etc.)

Arriving at Hogwarts was the first thing that Lucius ever really had looked forward to in his life up until that point. It got him away from his father, but, more importantly, it gave him a social and intellectual arena to test his mettle. As anyone carrying the Malfoy name should (and his father expected), he excelled at whatever he chose to put his mind to. Academically, he gravitated toward Defense Against the Dark Arts, although the ‘defense’ part never sounded quite as interesting—as exciting as the Dark Arts part, and charms. He found that he was extremely quick with a wand and took great pleasure in the advantages that gave him in duels (especially ones with a little wager on them, not necessarily money). But it was socially that Malfoy really hit his stride.

He found—although he would only grudgingly admit it years after Abraxas’s death—that his father’s detested regimen had stood him in extremely good stead. He could convince others to do what he wanted. A silver tongue worked with the well-connected children; some well-placed threats or carried out spells worked with the riffraff. Even before the end of the first year, he had made ‘friends’ with a good part of his year and even older kids.

He also discovered that ‘real world’ meetings with other children were nothing like the ones he’d been forced through before Hogwarts. They weren’t supervised; no one constantly listened to everything they said; no one cared who he talked to or why. It was utterly liberating: he found that he liked to have other people, especially high-status people like those his father had forced him to ‘chat’ with, do whatever he wanted. He liked it a lot. In fact, he rather preferred it if they hadn’t wanted to. So long as no one but the one person could say he’d done whatever he’d done, he liked it just fine.

That was probably what fanned the general hatred of Mudbloods Abraxas had passed on into something the Dark Lord could take notice of. Lucius found that he liked to practice the special charms he found out on other students. He liked to practice until he had everything just like the diagrams in the restricted books that he read. In fact, starting his second year, he even found this one room he’d never noticed before that gave him the perfect place to practice. It even gave him the ingredients. It was almost as if it simply knew what he wanted and gave it to him.

Lucius discovered the Death Eater community at Hogwarts his fifth year. It was suddenly as if everything fell into place. Here was a group of people of good social standing concerned with culling the magic bloodlines until only the true magic users remained. Here were people after his own heart, ready to ‘practice’ what they’d need to cull Mudbloods on a useless Muggle or two. Here was a way to stick it to his father and show that, yes, he upheld what the Family name stood for. But, above all, here was a way to Power. Lucius could feel that power, and he wanted it badly.

Note: I’m going to need to talk this part out with Bellatrix’s player. We’ll be overlapping here, and we’ll probably want to get our stories straight.

That same year, after finding a direction (the Dark Lord’s) for his life beyond being a dandy, he started looking for other students of the right potential to pull into the ranks. Although not of the social standing he himself would have preferred, one of the students he took particular interest in was Severus Snape. Even in his first year, Lucius could tell that he could prove useful.

Note: I’m happy to talk this over with Snape’s player, too, although I tried to match it to what I read in Snape’s user info.

Lucius hadn’t sailed out of Hogwarts long when he was already penetrating the ranks of the Death Eaters. The rank-and-file were adequate, plodding workers, but they had nothing to offer the Dark Lord like Lucius did. He rose quickly, rapidly becoming one of the Dark Lord’s most prized followers. In his name, Lucius freely took advantage of the call to ‘bring’ others to join them, by words or by force—preferably by force.

Once he knew that his position was assured, Malfoy asked the one person he had been forced to ‘play with’ as a child who seemed more than just a debutante—Narcissa Black—to marry him. Beyond the sheer usefulness of the other people he’d been forced to meet, Narcissa was the only one he’d actually enjoyed being around. When she came to Hogwarts, a year after he did, he made a point to slowly be around her more often to see if she was merely another empty socialite who would just increase his social standing or someone he would be willing to be around daily. It was only by his third year that he finally agreed with himself that she might be. When she agreed with—supported—the Dark Lord’s cause, he knew for sure. His father had tacitly agreed with the match by introducing them as children, and besides, if he hadn’t, he was dead already. Once his position in the (rising start of the) Death Eaters was assured, he asked her to marry him. She agreed, as he’d assumed.

When the rising star finally fell, when some child defeated the man he’d seen as an unquenchable source of power and prestige, Lucius quickly re-evaluated things. Drawing on that silver tongue he’d relied on for so long, he lied (and bought) his way back into the graces of the winning side. It was truly regrettable that the Dark Lord had left his work unfinished, but finishing it could really only take place from a well-connected position. If that meant greasing a few well-placed palms and pretending to renounce the past fifteen or so years of his life, he could live with that. If the Dark Lord ever returned looking powerful enough, he, of course, would come back to reclaim his position as vital follower. If he never did, well, Lucius could continue with what he’d always done: work from the shadows and get others to do what he needed.

Draco’s birth was a blessing: another son to carry on the Family name. As his father probably thought for him, there was no need to divide the wealth (especially on a girl child) by having any more. Lucius set about ‘educating’ Draco the way his father had (for it had, he could admit, worked well), with modifications. Narcissa simply was not as yielding as his mother had been. While he certainly treasured that and respected her more for it, it made following the regimen that had worked so well a little more difficult. She cared for the boy just a little too much. Since Lucius saw no need in begrudging her that, so long as he could keep to the main points of the ‘education,’ he modified it. He left the actual educating to Snape, a fellow follower who had shown himself to be quite useful, in spite of Lucius’s initial misgivings about his status.

Lucius kept an eye on the ‘Boy Who Lived.’ There had to be something special about him, something he hadn’t seen in his worthless parents, that had let the child do what he did. Easily pretending to be as enamored with the prat as the other gullible fools, Lucius could easily find out more about him, most easily done by putting his own boy to use when they were at school together. When he heard the first—unconfirmed—whispering of the Dark Lord’s return, Lucius decided to play all sides safely and release the Dark Lord’s diary into the hands of the little Weasley girl. At the very least, the diary would take her life and rid the world of one more Weasley annoyance. It might also make a good message to that loud-mouthed father of hers. Sadly, it didn’t work, thanks, again, to that boy.

When years went by and nothing came of the rumors of his lord’s return, Lucius gave him up as really dead. Again, it was regrettable, but nothing he couldn’t live without. That meant that he was caught with his proverbial pants down when Barty Crouch, Jr. finally trumpeted the Dark Lord’s return. Finally seeing the mark again, after all he’d managed to build up on the ‘wrong side’ since the Dark Lord’s fall, made him panic. Momentarily terrified of what the Dark Lord would do to him for his two-facedness, he fled.

When the moment seemed right, when it looked like the Dark Lord’s star was on the rise again (and he’d properly thought of ways to say he’d been helping not only the Cause but the Dark Lord in his absence), Lucius made his reentry. He wasn’t welcomed back as warmly as he’d hoped, but his silver tongue and fast wandarm came in handy again, and he was back to his old place quickly. That landed him the sheer joy of a stint in Azkaban, but if that solidified his connection with the Dark Lord, he could handle it.

It was when the Dark Lord honored him by choosing his son to finally start the takeover (Lucius refused to think of it any other way) that he realized that he should have overpowered Narcissa and gone through with the full ‘education.’ The boy was weak, much too weak. Having failed to properly join the Death Eaters and take his social and political place as he should have, having failed in his first mission by the Dark Lord, and ultimately failing to have any sort of control over that Potter boy put Draco on probation in Lucius’s mind. Every failure put him closer and closer to riding himself of such a weak son and beginning again. If that meant that he would have to rid himself of Draco’s doting mother in the process, well, that would be regrettable but also necessary. He hoped it would not be necessary. One more major failure on Draco’s part, and Lucius would be forced to take matters into his own hands.

All of Lucius’s social and magical charms finally failed him when that Potter somehow defeated the Dark Lord—it seemed like—once and for all. (although he was dead the last time, as well) He was shipped along with the other Death Eaters to Azkaban. It was a truly awful experience, but not one he couldn’t handle. His lovely Narcissa stayed by his side, and he began exerting his influence over that spineless Minister to release him almost at once. Soon he was free again and his proverbial record wiped of all ill, although it would probably still take some time to regain the status he had lost.
